Blood Testing
Your safety — and the safety of every patient we serve — is our highest priority.
Every blood donation undergoes 14 different tests in accordance with FDA regulations and national standards before it is released for patient use. These tests ensure that the blood supply remains safe, reliable, and ready when hospitals need it most.
What We Test For
Each donation is carefully screened for:
Blood type (ABO and Rh)
Infectious diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C
Syphilis
West Nile Virus
Other transfusion-transmissible infections as required by federal guidelines
We use advanced laboratory technology and multiple layers of screening to detect even the smallest signs of infection.
Donor Screening Process
Safety begins before you donate. Every donor completes:
A confidential health history questionnaire
A mini-physical including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin check
If a Test Result Is Abnormal
If any test result is outside of normal limits, donors are notified confidentially and provided with appropriate follow-up information. Blood that does not meet strict safety standards is never released for transfusion.
