Student-Led Winter & Summer Break Blood Drives
Student-led blood drives help the local hospitals maintain a stable blood supply during Winter and Summer breaks when donations historically drop due to weather, travel, or illness. By hosting a drive during these critical times, students can rally their families, friends, and communities to save lives.
Eligibility
Must be a senior in high school, student in college, university, community college or trade school.
Winter drives must occur the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s.
Summer drives must occur between June 15th – August 15th.
Organization
Student may host a blood drive at an approved site (e.g., a blood center,mobile unit, or other authorized location).
All blood drive requests must be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the proposed date and confirmed by the Central California Blood Center.
Every successful donation counts toward scholarship funds.
Funds are sent directly to the students college, university, community college or trade school.
Student Role
The student serves as the primary organizer and promoter of the drive.
Responsibilities include:
- Securing a blood drive venue.
- Advertising and recruiting donors.
- Helping to set up and break down the event.
- Ensuring donors sign up for their donation
Donor Criteria
All donors must meet the Central California BloodCenter’s eligibility requirements.
Minors (16 or 17 years old) must have signed parent/guardian consent form.
Compliance
All student-led drives must adhere to Central California Blood Center policies and protocols.
The student and donors must respect site rules andstaff instructions.
SCHOLARSHIP SCALE
35-69 units: $250 scholarship
70-149 units: $500 scholarship
150+ units: $1,000 scholarship
Total units are reset every school year.
