Age:  5 yr old       Diagnosis:   Leukemia

Gino was diagnosed with Leukemia at 18 months old on January 5, 2010.  It all came became apparent within a one week period.  He sleept through a whole day, not really eating, and was very pale.  After a visit to the ER, follow up doctor visits and multiple blood transfusions to get him healthy enough for some of the tests, doctors knew the news would not be good.  They received devastating test results and that was the last thing his parents could have imagined.  Gino’s bone marrow test confirmed that he had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  Gino’s father had just lost his job and his mother was 5 months pregnant with their second baby.  Gino was given an 80% cure rate.   Since his diagnosis, Gino has had to endure four surgeries, more than most do in a lifetime.  Gino finished his treatments this last May and is doing amazing well.  It is a new experience for their family because cancer is all they have known since he was diagnosed at such a young age.  They are constantly worrying that it is not really over, but from all that they have gone through they have learned that they can endure anything that comes our way.  It may sound cliche, but this has truly made them stronger.  They are very thankful for all the donors who donated to get Gino through the worst of times and encourage them to continue donating for others who are struggling through the same thing.
