Age:  Adult          Diagnosis:  Gastric Bypass:  needed 19 pints of blood

In 2006, Marilyn went in for gastric bypass surgery.  During her surgery doctors found something that was additionally threatening her health: bleeding ulcers.  Over the course of the next several weeks, Marilyn used 19 pints of blood.  Eventually doctors had to put her though another procedure where they cauterized the ulcers and stopped the bleeding.  After a month in and out of the hospital and a long recovery Marilyn was back on track.  Marilyn is grateful the blood was available for her in her time of need.  She now donates whenever she has a chance and wants to encourage others to do so as well.  She says you never really know when you may need it.
