CENTRAL CALIFORNIA BLOOD
CENTER WANTS TO THANK TWILIGHT FANS FOR HELPING TO STOCK THE SHELVES
AND LOCAL HOSPITALS BEFORE THE LONG 4TH
OF JULY WEEKEND
CENTRAL VALLEY,
CA – 3,527 people registered to donate blood during the first ever
Twilight Blood Drive.
The drive started on Monday, June 21 and ran through Saturday, June
26 – making it the biggest one week blood drive EVER at the Central
California Blood Center.
Y101, the Fresno Grizzlies’ team and management, and the Central
California Blood Center successfully teamed up for this phenomenal
event. Fans of the
books and movies were invited to drop by a Central California Blood
Center and “vote” for their favorite character – Edward or Jacob –
through blood donation.
All donors who took part received a commemorative T-shirt (with Team
Edward or Team Jacob on it) and were entered into a drawing for
tickets to the movies’ midnight premiere on June 30th,
received special discounts to the Saturday, June 26th
Grizzlies game and the opportunity to win team memorabilia. The
thousands of units donated came just in time as the Blood Center is
gearing up for the long 4th of July weekend – when more
people are out having fun and demand in Valley hospitals often can
rise.
Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete.
Donors must be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds
and be at least 17 years old (16 years old with written parental
consent). Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as there is no
upper age limit. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of
water within 4 hours prior to their donation. Donors can give blood
every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social Security Number are
required at donor registration.
The
Central
California
Blood Center
is the sole provider of blood and blood products for the 31
hospitals in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa Counties
and must collect between 5,000 to 6,000 pints of blood a month to
meet the needs of our Valley community.
